The next challenge at camp is a tree-climbing competition. Raj loved the rock climbing wall at his playground back home, so he picks a tree and starts climbing. When he is tied with a girl from another team, he looks down and freezes in terror. Then, he remembers Klawde’s words about having a strong heart and continues to the top of the tree. Raj wins the competition and feels amazing for a moment before he realizes, “There was only one problem: How the heck was I going to get back down?” (135).
Klawde interrogates his loyal follower, who says that the cats of Lyttyrboks seem happy under their new ruler, who gave everyone the right to universal furcare. Klawde believes that this is a hoax and that he must return to burn down the trees and take away the rights that his enemy has bestowed. He declares, “The time is RIPE for my return” (137). He tests the teleporter by sending a signed baseball to Lyttyrboks. When it arrives intact, his follower suggests testing it with a live specimen and asks if there are any other cats around.
